You’ve probably heard that if you go on a date and don’t really feel a spark, it’s polite to say, “You’re not my type” so you don’t hurt the other person’s feelings.
Doesn’t work.
I once went on a blind date—my friend talked me into meeting his sister. At the end of the date, the lady suggested we go out again. Being the gentleman I am, I politely said, “Thanks, but no thanks.” She asked why, and I replied, “You’re not my type.”
Then she asked, “So what is your type?” Without really thinking, I said, “Good-looking, intelligent, and with a sense of humour.”
My friend hasn’t spoken to me since.
