A friend recommended a type of cheese I hadn\u2019t tried before\u2014Cantal, from Lidl. That evening, I sliced a piece onto a salt cracker and settled on the couch to watch a movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the dark, I almost knocked over my wineglass, and as I grabbed it, the cheese fell to the floor. According to the three-second rule (so the bacteria wouldn\u2019t have time to latch on), I swiftly picked it up, blew the dust off, and plopped it back onto the cracker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I watched the movie, let the cheese warm up a bit, and eventually took a bite. I have to say, it was disappointing. The flavor was definitely strong\u2014but not in a good way. I ate it anyway but didn\u2019t bother with a second piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This morning, when I woke up and came into the living room, I noticed that the piece of cheese was still on the floor in front of the couch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So now the question is\u2026 what the hell did I eat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was about the thickness of a thumb tip, around 3 centimeters long, and smelled and tasted intensely like foot sweat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
