Friday night went on a bit longer than planned. On Saturday morning, my phone alarm went off: \u201cPick up laundry from the laundry room.\u201d I was still half asleep, so I threw on some clothes and headed down to the communal laundry room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The machines were still running, with just over 15 minutes left. I couldn\u2019t be bothered going back upstairs, so I decided to wait there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then my neighbour showed up. We said hello, exchanged a few words of small talk, and watched the washing machines go round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWon\u2019t be long now,\u201d I said, just to break the awkward silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cJust a few minutes,\u201d my neighbour replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then we sat in silence again, watching the machines go into their spin cycles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I did wonder where my neighbour\u2019s laundry was, though. He hadn\u2019t brought a laundry basket with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eventually, the first machine stopped. I got up, and so did my neighbour. We both walked over to the machine, and when I looked through the glass door and saw the clothes inside, I suddenly realised something rather embarrassing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those weren\u2019t my clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I remembered I\u2019d done my laundry the day before. Apparently, I\u2019d set the reminder for the wrong day by mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So I cheerfully announced to my neighbour, \u201cRight, all done!\u201d Then I turned around and made my escape at the highest speed compatible with maintaining a shred of dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now he probably thinks I have a habit of sitting in the laundry room, watching my neighbours\u2019 washing go round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which, to be fair, is a fairly odd hobby. Even by my standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
